National Credit Union Youth Week was magic!
Thanks to everyone who popped in during National Credit Union Youth Week last April. There was popcorn, we gave away magic kits, and held a drawing for a fun-filled mystical Magic Basket.
Congratulations to the winner, Zachary B. of San Mateo! He and his Magic Basket’s tricks and secrets will soon be magically entertaining his family and friends.
Plus, we welcomed Brooklyn D. of San Francisco, Almondo A. of Oakland, and Nevaeh A. of Oakland as well as other smart and new young members who opened Small Change and Dollar Dane Club accounts during Youth Week.
And it was great seeing our current members Ambria M. of Burlingame, Edgar Jr. of Millbrae, Vanessa S. of San Mateo and Nicholas B. of San Mateo, who visited to join in the fun and make deposits.
Smart kids know, there’s no trick to making your money grow. Just stash some of your birthday, holiday, allowance and all of the other money you get into your account.
Keep saving and your account will grow like — magic!
Teen U Checking? We think you’re ready.
If you don’t already have a checking account, you’re going to need one soon. And in today’s economy, be sure to get one that won’t cost you a penny: A UHCU Teen U checking account.
Those “free checking” accounts at banks can fee you to death. For instance, every time you use another bank’s ATM, your bank charges you a fee — and so does the bank that owns the ATM. Those fees add up to an average of $3.50 per withdrawal. Do that twice a week for a semester and we’re talking serious money!
If you’re at least 15, you can also request a UHCU debit card. “So what,” you’re probably thinking. “What do I do when I’m out of town? There aren’t any UHCU free ATMs near my aunt’s house in Eureka.”
Don’t worry. You can get cash from your UHCU checking at more than 28,000 no-fee ATMs in 50 states. And 5,500 of those free ATMs are in 7-Eleven stores. Talk about convenience! The CO-OP Network is credit union owned. Just look for the logo.
If you’re 15 to 17, call or visit us to open a Teen U checking account today. It gives you so much more value than you’ll get at a bank. Plus, it’s the kind of value you want to keep your whole life.
Save and earn rewards
What do you do when you get a few dollars? Spend it of course! But what should you do? Save at least part of it, that’s what! Let it add up in a Small Change & Dollar Dane Club account. Pretty soon you’ll have enough to buy stuff you could really use like new clothes or a video game.
You’ll earn rewards as you save. Every time you put $10 in your account, you’ll get a coupon worth 10 points. When you get to 100 points (10 coupons), you’ll be entered in a drawing for a $50 U.S. Savings Bond!
All you need to get started is $10. Ask a parent, grandparent or another relative to bring you to the credit union to open an account.

Learn financial basics with Teen U
Your school probably doesn’t offer a course in handling money. That’s too bad, because that’s a skill you’re going to need soon, especially if you plan on getting a part-time job.
So open a Teen U Account at United Health Credit Union. It includes a savings and checking account so you can learn to keep track of your money. If you’re at least 15, you can ask for a Visa Debit Card (with permission from your parent(s) or guardian) you can use online and at ATMs. If you’re 18, you can apply for a Visa credit card.
